I got saved in a Church of God Church out of Anderson, IN in Indianapolis, IN. This church is one of that movement's churches. In a bible study in Indy I was told about this church, so when I moved to the Portland, OR area I made this church my home church. Back then there was a Senior Pastor named Gerald Marvell. He was a great sermon giver. His messages still ring true with me today. However, when I went to this churches singles group no one had no knowledge of any single Bible verse. When Pastor Marvell retired Pastor Martin Birch took over and things were stable. but the headquarters called him away to West Virginia and then all hell broke loose. One Sunday after he left I met three homeless guys to come to church with me. I'd been outspoken about problems in church so I wasn't allowed to stay, but the homeless guys were. Who would have been wanting to stay in a church that excluded someone who brought in new people, especially people who could really have used some help?

  • This Church has a New Pastor who loves the Lord and Loves people. It is headed in the right direction once again. My wife and I have attended this church for over thirty years we love the staff and all that they stand for in the Kingdom of God. This is a very loving church fellowship where the Bible is taught each day both in sermons and in Sunday School. This church welcomes all who thrive to have a relationship with God the Father.

My wife and I have gone to this church for over 30 years. Recent events have shown that this church has become nothing more than a business with a cross out front. I know that there are Christians who worship at this building, but the leadership is lacking in Christian ethics. Decisions are being made purely based on business ethics and not Christian values. I pray that the body of this church will wake up and demand a change of leadership from the top down.

Yes it is true that the church has new leadership, but the damage that was done by the church's leadership is going to take a good number of years to erase. We pray that the new leaders will recognize how damaging the previous leaders were and try to mend the church's relationship with it's members, old and new.
